YOUR STYLE, YOUR SUPERPOWER
The launch party for the collection took place at Highline Stages, located in NYC’s uber-chic Meatpacking District. Upon entering the space, I was practically slapped across the face with 80s nostalgia—in the best way possible. The venue was adorned with old-school TV screens, working game room machines (Pac Man, Donkey Kong, and Space Invaders), a giant Lite-Brite display, and a DIY coloring wall where attendees filled in Haring’s designs with bright hues. A DJ Booth with LEGO block speakers blasted music of the decade from Madonna, Duran Duran, and Phil Collins.
Additionally, in between nibbles of mini burgers, truffle grilled cheese sandwiches, and bite-size pizzas, guests couldn’t help but gaze at one of the most captivating features of the evening: the indoor skateboarding ramp painted with Haring’s graffiti designs. Models wearing the line rode up and down fearlessly, effortlessly, and—of course—in style. Alice + Olivia is always successful in daring to go bold—both the event and collection as a whole serve as no exception.

This past year, people have started to become more socially inclusive at last, embracing a wide variety of international cultures. As a result, traditional trends from all areas of the world are being reintroduced--especially the Indian culture's dhoti pants. Recently, dhoti pants--which used to be a traditional Indian garment for men--has made a comeback in the form of high-end women’s attire.
The design is loosely draped at the upper leg area and gradually becomes more tapered toward the ankle. Multiple variations are made of this type of pant: it can either contain a zipper on the sides or in the front, feature a drop crotch, and be made at any length. They are typically constructed in soft fabrics--such as muslin, soft cotton, silk, crepes, and Georgette--because of their ability to drape easily.
Although this staple piece of Indian style can be traced back to 5th Century BC, it was especially popular throughout the 20th Century. Ironically, in Harper’s Bazaar’s December 1945 issue, dhoti pants were highlighted as a seaside trend of the moment. On the other hand, McCall’s March 1991 Pattern Book called the style “party pants,” showing the design on both female children and adult models.
This fun, flirty style made a return to the fashion industry after many years on Delpozo’s Spring ‘17 Runway at New York Fashion Week. The dhoti pants he constructed were paired with three-dimensional, sculptural tops that models wore down the catwalk.
Ralph Lauren took a different approach in paying homage to traditional Indian design in his Spring ‘17 Ready-to-Wear Collection at NYFW. For his look, he placed a model in camel-colored dhoti pants and paired them with a snakeskin blazer in the matching hue.
For his Fall ‘18 Ready-to-Wear Collection for NYFW, Marc Jacobs did a different take on dhoti pants by sending a version of them down the runway in a grassy green and black print.
Today, dhoti pants are not only being manufactured by the fashion industry’s high-end designers, but retail stores and websites are selling the design at a more reasonable price. Revolve carries brands--including A Mere Co., Three Graces, and Free People--that do a modern, street style spin on classic dhoti pants. H&M retails dhoti pants as well, producing them in three different color/pattern options. Forever 21 decided to take the traditional Indian statement piece to the next level: they sell a cutout cami jumpsuit with a dhoti-style bottom!
Ready to walk the streets like they’re your catwalk? Here’s your head start: purchase a pair of dhoti pants stat.

With Halloween on the horizon, the last minute scramble to find the perfect costume is pretty much inevitable. Another inevitability: picking out the same cliché outfit that you’ve sported three years in a row (devil costumes should be condemned by now). This year, take my advice and choose one of my outfit suggestions for the 31st that look more stylish than spooky. There’s no shame in standing out in a room full of superheroes and witches.
1. Carrie bradshaw from sex and the city
Channel your inner New Yorker by putting together an outfit that captures the Sex and the City character’s bold, feminine style. Mimicking her signature tutu from the opening theme guarantees you’ll look the most fashionable out of all your friends (and don’t forget Carrie’s signature nameplate necklace!).
The renowned fashion doll lives in a dream house, so you’re destined to have the perfect Halloween in an outfit inspired by her lifestyle. Choose pieces in her iconic hot pink hue that suit you best--an edgy bomber jacket works just as well as a flirty frock!
3. holly golightly in breakfast at tiffany's
Get inspired by Audrey Hepburn by investing in pearls, black satin gloves, and circular sunglasses. As for the LBD, you may just find it already hanging at the front of your closet.
Be the queen of the evening by sporting dazzling metallic gold hues and stacks of jewelry. PS: You totally have permission to rock blue eyeliner.
5. cher from clueless
Having an outfit less than perfection on Halloween night? As if! Luckily, plaid is all the rage this season, so you will be right on trend in clothing items inspired by the character’s legendary look.
6. cruella de vil
She may be a Disney villain, but there’s no denying her flamboyant fashion sense, “extra” in all the right ways. A fur coat and fiery red satin gloves are practically a given.
7. scary spice
Who cares about vampires and werewolves? Everyone will wannabe dressed just like you when you step out in a bold, leopard-printed outfit this Halloween.
In addition to the jewelry, the venue--Bvlgari’s 5th Avenue store location--was decorated with disco lights, hot pink Roman statues, and flowers in the same hue. Victoria’s Secret supermodel Elsa Hosk and I enjoyed colorful rock candy lollipops as we walked around the space as well.
One of my favorite parts of the evening was getting to talk with the lovely Nina Garcia, Editor in Chief of Elle. She was such a gracious host, and I was so grateful to have had the opportunity to tell her about my mission to empower others through fashion.
Having been in the room with such extraordinary jewels (and people!) throughout the course of the evening, I ultimately left feeling more luxurious as ever. I guess it’s time to start saving up my piggy bank money...stat.
You can shop Bvlgari's Wild Pop High Jewelry Collection here.
I was then handed a small drawstring bag filled with gold tokens, which I later learned would exchange for Bali-inspired keepsakes—including straw hats, floral umbrellas, and hand fans—as I visited different booths.
The room was surrounded by a myriad of displays that captured the essence of Bali. There were crystal consultations, a lineup of spices, drinks served in custom "AA x JH" coconuts, and bejeweled nail art. Master artisans from Bali at the event even practiced chain weaving, a signature handcrafted motif from the island.
As a DJ spun tunes throughout the course of the evening, waiters passed around hors d’oeuvres such as coconut shrimp and roasted tuna on a basil leaf. Attendees enjoyed guava lemonade and mango pineapple juice as well, which were passed around on a limbo bar.
One of the highlights of the event was trying on the jewelry from the Adwoa Aboah x John Hardy Back to Bali Collection, displayed in glass cases on tables. Each piece was unique and stunning, and I could hardly wait to make my purchase online later on.
Leaving that night with my hands full of souvenirs from Bali, I couldn’t help but feel as if New York was more distant than ever. But then I stepped out on to the sidewalk and was blinded by illuminated skyscrapers from 12th Avenue. Reality stinks.
For as long as I can remember, Madewell has been one of my favorite clothing brands. Since I was little, I have owned their classic crew neck shirt in every color of the rainbow, and their denim skirts have always remained a hero piece in my wardrobe. Each one of their pieces is ultra-comfy and versatile, equally suitable for a school day as for a dinner out with friends. When I heard that they were eager to partner with me on a fall shopping event, I was absolutely over the moon. We worked together for weeks planning out the details of the evening, from the food to the beverages to the activities. Here’s what happened when it all came together:
For my outfit of the evening, I paired the Madewell Side-Zip Bomber Jacket in Dusty Burgundy with their Stretch Denim Straight Mini Skirt in Lunar Wash, as well as a Madewell logo tee. It incorporated both autumn colors and silhouettes, perfect for the theme of the party.
Upon entering the store’s Upper East Side location, guests were greeted by six-foot tall Carrie’s Chronicles posters, featuring images of celebs such as Bethany Mota and Lucy Hale holding up the website’s logo.
A table was set up with a bin of S. Pellegrino and La Croix sparkling water in loads of fruity flavors. Attendees were also offered sweet treats from Georgetown Cupcake (decorated with the Carrie’s Chronicles logo!) and an assortment of cookies and macaroons from By the Way Bakery. Additionally, there were platters of cheeses, fruits, and antipasto to enjoy.
Guests lined up to get styled by me in some of Madewell’s newest fall clothing. With an array of bombers, sweaters, jeans, and booties, the girls who tried on the outfits I picked for them absolutely #slayed. Check some of them out below:
As attendees checked out at the register, they were given the opportunity to enter an exclusive giveaway of the evening. One lucky winner was chosen to win a Carrie’s Chronicles hat, shirt, and two Madewell tote bags.
I was so honored to have collaborated with Madewell on an exclusive event, and I’m so grateful to those who attended and supported our partnership. Stay tuned for future Carrie’s Chronicles x Madewell collabs!

This past year, Alice and Olivia--a New York City-based contemporary clothing company-- launched a 15-piece collection inspired by one of the most iconic bands of all time: The Beatles. But the fact of the matter is that designers have been drawing from entertainment icons to galvanize their collections for many years now. By evoking feelings of nostalgia on wearers, anger and frustration in their daily lives are counteracted. As Alice and Olivia’s founder Stacey Bendet has said, “It is truly a moment in time when the world needs to ‘come together.’ The Beatles songs, their lyrics, their messaging is so right right now.”
Designer Grace Loves Lace launched a bridal collection last June called “ICON” inspired by 90s legends that is equally inspiring. The clothing is influenced by the wardrobe of the decade’s renowned models--including Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford--and portrays their classic, traditional style. Students at the Fashion Institute of Technology collectively agree that if they had the opportunity to wear the wedding gowns, their “self-confidence would be boosted instantly. Wearing clothes inspired by ones that modeling icons wore would make us feel beautiful and special.”
In 2013, H&M also decided to draw inspiration from 90s models--such as Joan Smalls, Daphne Groeneveld, Liu Wen, and Lindsey Wixson--for their The New Icons collection. The line features a mixture of each girl’s personal style, yet maintains the overarching theme of the alluring “cool girl” vibe. "The New Icon collection from H&M is very flattering and suits all of your needs," Smalls has said. "It's super cool and for your everyday girl who wants to look great and feel comfortable at the same time."
With a combination of comfort, the cool girl factor Smalls speaks of, and easy access to celebrity inspiration, star-studded collections prove themselves a useful tool to evoke fearlessness in consumers. Sporting an outfit, especially inspired by an icon that one is influenced by, allows the wearer to connect on a deeper level with what he/she is wearing, and ultimately instills more self-confidence. Buyers have an intimate relationship with the clothing they purchase, and the fact that the outfit is inspired by an inspirational icon makes the connection even more personal. Shine on, shoppers...
With Summer 2018 now a distant memory, people are disposing of their used sunscreen bottles, packing their bags for school or work, and--unfortunately--boxing up their fave swimsuits. Not so fast! Just because autumn is here doesn’t mean our bikinis and one-pieces need to go into storage. Bathing suits are equally as chic when you wear them away from the beach...as long as you style them correctly. Take Louis Vuitton’s 2017 Resort Collection for example, whose neoprene zip-up dresses--inspired by rash guards--channeled a surfer vibe in an ultra-fashionable way. Follow these easy tips below on how to sport your summer swimwear on the street without looking like you’re going to do the backstroke in the middle of the sidewalk.
1. Wear your one-piece as a bodysuit. If your swimsuit is printed, pair it with denim jeans or shorts and neutral-colored booties so the outfit doesn’t look too busy. But if your one-piece is an earth tone such as black or white, you can up the “it factor” by adding a statement bomber jacket or an embellished clutch.
2. Pair your bikini with overalls. This way, the top of your bikini serves as a crop top and the bottoms are hardly visible with the overalls serving as a “cover-up.” Also, remember to pair the look with cute espadrilles or flats--save your flip-flops for the water.
3. Head over to the store and buy a pair of men’s board shorts to couple with a sweater. Although this look isn’t so common, I guarantee that your friends or coworkers will applaud you for your creativity. Just remember to keep the prints in your look to a minimum. If your shorts have a loud pattern on them, pick a more neutral-toned sweater to complement it.
4. That short-sleeve, high neck crop top you wore in the pool can be easily recycled for the fall when placed under a casual midi or maxi dress. Bonus points if your top is a bright color or print and your dress is a neutral tone--that way, your swimwear turns into the statement piece of your outfit.
5. A rash guard and a maxi skirt are a match made in fashion heaven! To go for a feminine, flirty vibe, opt for a floral skirt and accompany it with a rash guard in a matching hue. Then top it off with a pair of booties (or--if you insist--sandals) to make the look perfect for fall.
Every Fashion Week, I look forward to going what I call “runway hopping,” rushing from show to show to watch collections showcased. New shows come up each season, but there’s always one runway that stays consistent on my schedule: Sherri Hill. The Spring/Summer ‘19 Collection presented this year upgraded the brand to the next level: “We mixed it up this year,” Hill, herself, admitted to me. “We started the show with little retro, beaded, glitzy dresses, almost from the 90's, and then we transitioned into sort of a Boho look, and then full-on evening wear. We have a bit of a mix.” Hill credits the sudden change to the way in which “the company has grown to be more diversified. We do a lot of different looks. The Sherri girl does a lot of different things and we want to dress her for all of them.” But through it all, the Sherri girl always stays true to herself: “She’s exuberant, fun, and enjoys life,” said Hill.
Backstage at Gotham Hall, models buzzed around eagerly in white lace robes with tassels on the sleeves as they waited for hair and makeup. “They always do everything really nice for us,” expressed Julie Furman, who was first hired at a casting call for Sherri Hill at last year’s New York Fashion Week. “They make us feel like queens with these robes.” Scarlett Leithold, who has modeled for the brand for a very long time, agreed: “Sherri Hill is definitely the most glamorous job I have...getting dressed up and wearing sparkly dresses is really fun.” Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray had not worked with the brand before, but it didn’t take her long to recognize how special it is. “This is my first time working with them, and it's been such a wonderful experience. Everyone's really sweet on the team, and their collection's amazing.” Her favorite piece? “I have this tangerine sorbet piece with a stoned bodice and organza skirt. It's really beautiful and I love the color.” Model Elizabeth Turner had a different favorite look: “I’m wearing a really cool piece [on the runway]. The under part is a bodysuit and it has a skirt over it,” she explained. “I’ve never seen a bodysuit as [part of] a prom dress, so I like it a lot.”
The actual runway, which started punctually, as usual, was vibrant yet elegant, with each model displaying boundless confidence through the fashion they sported. My favorite look was a one-shoulder grey gown with a fabric train. The model lifted the train as if it were wings, and at one point, she even lifted her head to the ceiling as a demonstration of true freedom in her own skin.
Following the runway, celebrities raved about the new collection. “It’s whimsy, it’s beautiful, it’s a fantasy,” exclaimed Marilu Henner, an actress famous for her role in Taxi. “It always [gives me] feeling of when I was a little girl and wanted to go to a ball or a cocktail party...this is what I imagined wearing. There’s something very special about [Sherri Hill].” Teen actress Talin Silva from the popular Brat web series Chicken Girls agreed: “Honestly, everything about Sherri Hill is so amazing. I love the work they put into [their collection] with all the sequins and everything. It makes it look so stunning, especially with the lights and everything. It was so amazing.” As guests started to leave the event space and hail cabs for their next Fashion Week endeavors, teen YouTuber and singer Ruby Jay summed up the collection at this season’s Sherri Hill show best: “There’s a dress for every girl. It’s just perfect for everyone.”
As Bendet has explained to the press, her new collection focuses on “connectivity.” Although the world is diverse, “fashion connects women all over and from all different parts of life,” said Bendet. For the presentation, Alice + Olivia decided to hire models from all over the globe to enhance their goal of bringing people from different cultures and societies together. The fact that guests were involved in the walk-around experience, with loud, uplifting music playing the entire time, just made it all the more magical.
The studio at Pier 59 was filled with A-list celebs eager to view the brand’s newest collection, including Katie Holmes, Caitlyn Jenner, Victoria Justice, Tinsley Mortimer, Kelly Rutherford, Laura Marano, and Alisha Marie. As soon as they arrived, they made sure to pose for pictures in front of a black and white striped “optical illusion” background for the press.
Alice + Olivia is not just a clothing brand that makes stunning designs—they’re a company with a mission to highlight the common thread between women around the world: fashion. Although we all come from different places and have unique tastes in style, our passion for fashion brings us closer together than you could ever imagine...just ask A + O.
While people explored the collection, waiters passed around trays with waters, Sugarfina candies, and branded cookie lollipops!
Additionally, there was a photo booth with life-sized Karl and Kaia cartoons to pose with. Attendees were able to email the boomerangs to themselves to share on social media.
Even though it was early in the morning, the store somehow knew that guests would have a sweet tooth. To satisfy that, there was a table where 10 Below Ice Cream made live ice cream rolls for attendees to enjoy. Toppings included strawberries, raspberries, oreos, graham crackers, and more!
Kaia made a grand entrance after pulling up to the store in a double-decker bus with “#KARLXKAIAXREVOLVE” written across it. The 17-year-old model stunned in the Leather Mix Dress and Graffiti Biker Jacket from her own collection.
Once she entered the store, Kaia happily signed posters and took photos with fans who lined up outside the door to meet her.
A kind heart and a talent for fashion design? Looks like Kaia’s career is ready to soar...

Carrie’s Chronicles had its own booth, adorned with enormous posters, collages of my Instagram photos, and pics of celebs who support the website (Lucy Hale, Storm Reid, Bethany Mota, and more!). Throughout the day, my team--dressed in hats and tees with the blog logo on them--was a godsend, ushering people to our station and helping me inspire as many people as possible.
The highlight of my booth was the prize wheel...by a landslide. Attendees eagerly lined up to spin and win one of the following prizes from sponsors of Carrie’s Chronicles: Rodan + Fields ESSENTIALS Lip Shields SPF 25, Townley Girl Diamond Pen, Junkless Chewy Granola Bar, Georgetown Cupcake, Ulta Beauty product, Bliss Spa product, Bra Bar Bralette, Sally Hansen Nail Polish, a copy of one of my books (Peace, Love, and Cupcakes or Ask Emma), Dermal Sheet Mask, and Treo Birch Water Infusion.
A few celebs even stopped by our booth to learn more about my brand, including Olympic Gold Medalist Nastia Liukin, Austin and Ally star Hannah Kat Jones, former Creative Director on America’s Next Top Model Jay Manuel, Senegalese supermodel Khoudia Diop, and Tinkerbelle the Dog!
I could not be happier about the success of Carrie’s Chronicles at Style Con. The response from people regarding my mission to empower people to fearlessly express their personal style was humbling. There was one particular piece of advice I gave to everyone who stopped by, regardless of their age. Take it from me: Never let anyone tell you how to do you. Fashion is just one way that Carrie’s Chronicles can help you embrace your individuality and be proud of it. Own who you are--there’s nothing more beautiful than that.
Besides the racks of stunning outfits on sale, jars of millennial pink candies and gummies—to match the theme of my blog—were laid out on a table at the soirée. There were treat bags with Stace-face stickers (a signature logo of A&O’s owner Stacey Bendet) on them that attendees filled with treats to take home.
As for the drinks, there was sparkling lemonade, as well as Prosecco and rosé for the adults to enjoy. The pale pink hue of the drinks perfectly matched the aesthetic of Carrie’s Chronicles (and were super Instagrammable).
Speaking of “instagrammable,” there were lots of adorable photo spots around the store. Guests posed in front of the colorful clothing racks, a multicolor mosaic wall, and a bright green glitter background. Among the notable attendees was Gianna Ferazi, a teen supermodel and social media influencer, who posed for the camera while holding the Carrie’s Chronicles logo.
Overall, the event was a smashing success; I had a blast contributing fashion advice to guests and helping them pick out their perfect outfit. I am so grateful to Alice + Olivia for giving me the opportunity to host a stylish celebration in their store, and I’m excited to see what Carrie’s Chronicles x Alice + Olivia collabs may occur in the future.

Mickey Mouse has a new clubhouse contrary to his typical housing accommodations: a design house. In fact, multiple design houses are bringing back the iconic Disney character in their newest collections due to ‘his’ 90th anniversary. From shoes to sweaters to candies, it’s safe to say that there’s no shame in embracing some 1920s Disney nostalgia. Read on to find out how brands are paying homage to the Mouse’s massive milestone.
Clothing company Forever 21 recently created a “Mickey 90th Collection” exclusive to the anniversary celebration. The line is filled with stripes, a red and black plaid pattern inspired by Mickey's outfit colors, and tons of miniature icons. The collared shirts in the collection are a definite standout; they have an old-fashioned feel, yet they look as fresh as ever.
After previewing their Mickey-inspired capsule collection on the runway at Disneyland this past March (with ever-so-clever Mickey Mouse buns on models), Opening Ceremony is selling the clothing on their website for the public. The design label took a more artistic approach in featuring the character by putting hand-drawn Mickey Mouse and logo prints--inspired by DIY craft--throughout the line.
Vault by Vans is collaborating with four renowned artists--John Van Hamersveld, Mister Cartoon, Geoff McFetridge, and Taka Hayashi--to create custom artwork of Mickey Mouse on iconic Vans items. The drawings are placed on Vans’ classic shoe silhouette, OG Sk8-Hi LX high-top sneakers, and a short-sleeved tee. Each artist has something unique to offer to the collection: vibrant graphics for Hamersveld, blank ink tattooing for Mister Cartoon, bold minimalism for McFetridge, and a unique innovation for Hayashi.
Luxury fashion brand Yves Saint Laurent joined the Mickey anniversary train by crafting a custom print with miniature versions of the character scattered across it. So far, the design is manufactured on a button-down shirt with chest patch pockets. Pricey? Perhaps. Worth it? Without a doubt.
Although this collection is of a smaller scale, the “Disney Mickey Mouse x Marc Jacobs” line still has a chic, high-fashion impact. To celebrate the character’s 90th birthday, the design house created an oversized hoodie, denim mini skirt, denim jacket, and loose-fit dress which look as if the inverted Mickey was artfully collaged on to them. Versatility was the key intention when Jacobs created the collection, as most of the line’s pieces can be worn with a variety of others.
It’s not just fashion that Mickey is making a mark on...sweet shop Sugarfina was inspired by the character’s anniversary as well. Mickey may be all about hot diggidy dogs, but Sugarfina just released a “Disney Mickey The True Original x Sugarfina Collection” with candy cubes and chocolate bars inspired by the character. There are strawberry-flavored Mickey Ears, birthday-cake flavored Mickey gloves, and berry-flavored Mickey button candies for sale on their website and at their stores. Additionally, wrapped in original Mickey illustrations are dark, milk, and white chocolate bars made from special Parisian chocolate. Sugarfina even released its first-ever 3-D diorama Candy Bento Box shaped like a vintage TV set with drawings of Mickey on it, which houses each of the collection’s candies packaged in lucite cubes.
In the words of Mickey Mouse, “If you dream it you can do it.” With these brands’ new collections inspired by his long-lasting legacy, it looks like their Disney dreams certainly came to fruition.

Yves Saint Laurent:
From oversized to futuristic glam to rodeo-inspired, this fall’s style trend roundup may not have been your first idea of what would be introduced to your everyday wardrobe. Autumn trends--which were shown in February at Fashion Week--are all about being bold and taking risks...but isn’t that what 2018 is all about? Make it your fall resolution to incorporate one, two, or even all of these trends into your daily looks. When you find out that your back-to-school outfit matches Gigi Hadid’s, the risk will have been worth it.
1. Let’s Hear You Roar
Listen to your animal instincts this autumn by sporting bright zebra, cheetah, and leopard prints. Wear the prints by themselves or mix them together to make an epic fashion statement. But if you’re wary of the trend, first “start with an accessory like a leopard handbag or shoes,” celebrity stylist Samantha Brown recommends. “A leopard belt is also the perfect way to complement a corporate wardrobe full of sheath dresses and can even be worn over a coat or a blazer.” Who needs boring office frocks when animal prints allow you to tap into your wild side?
2. Bigger is Better
Sorry bodycon styles, but avant-garde, oversized garments are taking center stage this fall. Although this style may initially be deemed unflattering and too ‘out there,’ it’s actually a cultural rebellion in a world full of restrictive dress codes. Hawwaa Ibrahim, a Muslim fashion designer and runner-up on Project Runway Junior, notes that the trend is “comfortable, stylish, and is worn in the Modest fashion community quite often.” Oversized outfits are typically produced by top designers and can be out of most people’s price ranges. Ibrahim’s advice to try the trend without blowing your budget? “Start by buying or thrifting clothing that’s around two times your normal size. From there, get to styling!”
You guessed it. Channel Western vibes in the chicest way possible without traveling to a rodeo. “Turquoise and western jewelry allow you to dip your toe in the trend, as well as fringe and stitched denim,” says Brown. To ensure that your Western wear doesn’t look too cliche, Brown recommends that you “choose only one or two pieces to integrate into your day-to-day style.” No need to break out the cowboy boots and hat.
4. Back to the Future
Holography and plastics and metallics, oh my! Many of today’s top designers such as Tom Ford, Christian Dior, and Balmain sent models down the runway that looked like they walked straight out of the future. But before fully indulging in your futuristic fantasies, there is something important to remember. Peytie Slater, who--like Ibrahim--was a runner-up on Project Runway Junior, warns that “clear vinyl can get gimmicky really fast. Chanel’s Fall ‘17 Space Collection is the perfect example of how to wear the trend correctly.”
5. Return to the 80s
The decade which represented a cultural phenomenon when it came to fashion is making the ultimate comeback. Neon colors, shoulder pads, and lots of leather are being incorporated into designers’ new collections this fall--but something has specifically changed since three decades ago. “Fashion designers are taking the 80s trend and giving it a modern twist with the materials and styling,” notes Ibrahim. “The modern-day outfits seem to be more put together and thought out.” To avoid getting stuck in the past, Brown adds that it’s best to “keep your makeup clean and simple to help modernize the trend.”

Designer Karl Lagerfeld partnered with on-the-rise model Kaia Gerber on a collection of Parisian-inspired pieces with a West Coast edge to them. The Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia Collection--which launched on August 30th--features ready-to-wear accessories, sunglasses, footwear, jewelry, and clothing staples that are practically begging to be added to closet collections.
Lagerfeld first met Gerber when he signed her on to model at Fashion Week for Chanel in September 2017. That season, she was given the opportunity to walk the runway for 18 brands including Saint Laurent, Versace, and Calvin Klein. Although fame runs in the family (her mother is one of the original supermodels, Cindy Crawford), Gerber has evolved on her own, growing her Instagram following to 3.7 million followers (more than her mother).
After a one-year partnership, Lagerfeld decided to take his collaboration with Gerber to next level by giving her the role of co-designer on an exclusive capsule collection. “I have loved being a part of the creative process and working with Karl is a dream,” Gerber stated in a press release for Karl Lagerfeld. “It has given me a new appreciation for how hard designers work, and how much creativity and thought goes into every collection."
The line features an extensive array of items, from faux leather leggings to a metallic skirt to a millennial pink belted faux fur coat. Other standout pieces in the collection include faux leather gloves, a graffiti mini shoulder bag, “Kaia Kreeper” platform sneakers, and a tuxedo blazer with a logo pin accent.
The launch of the line was kicked off this past week at the Revolve Social Club in Los Angeles, where a pop-up shop is opening for the collection starting on September 1st.
Additionally, the public is invited to attend a consumer event at the Karl Lagerfeld flagship in New York on September 12th. Fans will have the chance to win a meet-and-greet with Gerber at the event by following the rules posted on Lagerfeld’s social media.
Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia is now available on Karl.com and Revolve.com for two weeks. Starting September 14th, you can shop the line at retailers worldwide as well, including Selfridges, Excelsior, Breuninger, La Rinascente.
It seemed like Gigi Hadid was the ultimate multi-faceted model following her collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger on the Tommy x Gigi Collection. Now it’s Kaia’s turn to step into the spotlight. With an impressive debut line, her supermodel status seems to be going nowhere but up from here.

Just in time for back-to-school, Bloomingdale’s is partnering with anti-bullying organization Kind Campaign on a capsule collection of tees to stand up against female-induced bullying. The line--which donates 10% of its sales to Kind Campaign--specifically focuses on “girl-against-girl crime,” since the way girls verbally ostracize each other in a school setting can be far more severe.
The collection of tees features designs for women, men, and kids, crafted by popular empowerment brands Girl Dangerous and Kid Dangerous. There are eight shirts total in the line that are priced reasonably (under $50), each featuring important messages such as “Find Your Kind,” “Kind Campaign,” and “Cool to be Kind.”
Additionally, Bloomingdale’s locations worldwide will include “pledge walls” that boast the same type of positive phrases, slogans, and doodles, with the final murals ultimately being donated to local schools. The department store is also hosting a “Fashionable Fundraiser” where students can practice inclusion at a bracelet making station or learn more about becoming a Kind Ambassador in their own school community. During this time, customers will be given the opportunity to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, with the difference in change donated to Kind Campaign.
Bullying is an issue that won’t ever fully be solved--but perhaps Bloomingdale’s approach in wearing our hearts across our tees is a step in the right direction.

Although last night's awards show was filled with heartfelt acceptance speeches, wow-wrothy performances, and lots of "roasting" (hi, Tiffany Haddish!), the real star of the show was the parade of fashionable looks that preceded the handout of "moon people." Just in case you missed the pre-show, below you will find my top ten favorite looks (in no particular order) that celebs sported on the hot pink carpet.
1. Millie Bobby Brown
2. sofia carson
3. Shay Mitchell
4. jennifer lopez
5. karlie kloss
6. cardi b
With ten nominations at last night's show (of which she received three wins), the Bodak Yellow singer knew she had to make a statement on the pink carpet that spoke just as loud as her popular music. Her plunging, magenta Nicolas Jerab gown--accessorized with Loraine Schwartz jewelry--did just that.
7. kylie jenner
8. camila cabello
9. jasmine sanders

Renowned sneaker brand Vans is upping their shoe game with the recent launch of their Vans X Van Gogh Collection inspired by the iconic 17th Century Dutch painter. In collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum, the line features some of the artist’s most famous works in the form of t-shirts, sweatshirts, sneakers, bomber jackets, hats, and backpacks.
The items in the 16 piece-collection either highlight one of Van Gogh’s four classic paintings or a letter he wrote to his brother Theo. In honor of their new partnership, Vans decided to update their classic slip-on sneaker by producing it in new prints such as “Skull True White,” “Letters Turtledove,” and “Sunflowers Pure White,” inspired by the early artist’s “Sunflowers” and “Skull” paintings, as well as his handwritten note. The line also features the Sunflower Boyfriends Tee, the Autumn Blossom Bomber, the Skull Hoodie, and even an oversized tee with the painter’s famous self-portrait on it. Each piece perfectly captures the essence of Van Gogh’s work with eerily accurate brushstrokes and exquisite details.
As if the clothing itself isn’t beautiful enough, the meaning behind the collection is just as impactful. The Van Gogh Museum is donating a portion of the profits from the sales of the collection to the preservation of the painter’s legacy and art collection. This way, art lovers worldwide can continue to admire his work and allow it to inspire them for years to come. Although it’s practically impossible to obtain a Van Gogh painting for your bedroom to empower you daily, a closet full of style statement pieces from the Vans X Van Gogh Collection is equally effective.

I wanted to bring attention to a trend that’s quietly taking the fashion world by storm...tassels! The ornament that originally served as a weaving knot in garments to prevent unraveling is now a style statement that everyone (including celebs like Chrissy Teigen and Gigi Hadid) are eager to try. Tassels are not just a collection of loosely hanging threads that dangle from a graduation cap. They can be made of materials such as leather or pearls, produced in a variety of colors, and implemented into a large selection of clothing and accessories such as bags, t-shirts, and even pants! Below are my top five ways to try out tassels that even Gigi would approve.
1. Tassel Pants: Shock the world by sporting the unexpected and earn major style points in the process.
2. Tassel Shirts: Your way to accomplish a flirty, feminine vibe with a boho twist.
3. Tassel Bags: Funky...flirty...iconic.
4. Tassel Shoes: Who says you can’t bring the fun to your feet?!
5. Tassel Earrings: Frequently worn by celebs (i.e. Pink, Julianne Hough...see more below) on red carpets, these accessories are guaranteed to instill star quality.
You may know Madison Beer from her hit EP album "As She Pleases." Or maybe you saw Justin Bieber’s tweet about her incredible singing voice. Or you’ve heard her array of fantastic singing covers on her YouTube (she has 386K + subscribers!). Although I’ve seen all of these sides to Madison, I’m more focused on her killer style that’s displayed on her social media. Below you will find a guide to dressing like Beer so you, too, can become a style star.

Last week’s Royal Wedding left me feeling quite inspired. After seeing both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s stunning outfits, a light bulb went off over my head: Carrie’s Chronicles needs to do a royal fashion face off! Check out the five battles between both Duchess Meghan and Duchess Kate that I put together below and feel free to leave a comment with your own opinion.
Face off #1:
Although both ladies’ wedding dresses were exquisite, I have to let Kate take the win on this one. Her look, by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, complete with long lace sleeves and v-neckline, has earned a spot in the fashion history books. The Victorian-inspired ivory satin bodice, which was padded at the hips and narrowed at the waist, hugged Kate's figure in all the right ways. In contrast, Meghan’s gown by Givenchy designer Clare Waight Keller was a bit too simple, and the tailoring on her sleeves could have been more form-fitting.
face off #2:
Meghan's Stella McCartney halter gown reigns victorious when it comes to this battle.
Her reception dress was simple yet elegant, as if it came straight off the runway. The Alexander McQueen frock that Kate chose to wear post-wedding, however, was notably conservative.
The box-pleated ball skirt and sweetheart neckline looked a bit dated, and her cropped cardigan was excessively demure.
Face off #3:
Although Kate's Jojo Maman Bebe coat that she wore to visit the set of popular show Downtown Abbey is classic and chic, the belted element of Meghan's takes it to the next level. Meghan's modern wrap coat from Line the Label--which she wore out for her first public appearance with Prince Harry--sold out on the brand's website within minutes of her photo breaking the internet! The newest Duchess is the clear winner of this battle.
face off #4:
Maybe it's only because she has ten years of experience, but Kate Middleton sure knows how to rock a suit. Her tweed Rebecca Taylor ensemble she sported during a visit to Ronald McDonald House looks like she walked straight out of the pages of a Chanel ad in Vogue. Meghan, unfortunately, missed the mark(le) in this tailored Alexander Mcqueen trouser suit she wore to the Endeavour Fund Awards ceremony in London. The capri length of her pants seemed a bit casual, and overall, her ensemble seemed more lawyer-like than fit for a royal.
face off #5:
To be honest, I love both of these looks. Kate's dress--which she wore to a garden party in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s 91st birthday in Berlin--looks like she's ready to make the ultimate style statement at a beachside party. Meghan's outfit that she wore to a Today Show appearance, on the other hand, is channeling West Side Story vibes in the best way possible. Although this was a close one, I have to give it to Meghan. Her Jill Stuart dress proved that she is an absolute power woman who is not afraid to steal the show. Kate's Gosia Baczynska maxi paired with beachy sandals seemed laid-back in comparison.
