Jadah Marie Goes Behind the Scenes of Netflix’s “Julie and the Phantoms”
Among several original Netflix series, a new musical comedy shines brighter than the rest: Julie and the Phantoms. Directed by Kenny Ortega (High School Musical; Descendants), the show is studded with powerful anthems, standout special effects (ghosts that zap in and out of reality) and an uber-talented cast. Below, Jadah Marie—who plays Julie’s best friend, Flynn—discusses her character’s unique sense of style and behind-the-scenes memories. (Learn more about Julie and the Phantoms here.)
How did you first hear about Julie and the Phantoms?
Kenny came up to me at the Descendants 3 screening and told me about his new show. Even then, I was on board and super excited.
What about your character, Flynn, struck you the most?
Her charisma and funny personality.
How would you describe Flynn’s personal style?
Since the first fitting, I loved what Soyon [Ann, the costume designer] had in store for Flynn. She did an outstanding job! Everyone always asks what our style is, but our style is really #NoStyle.
What was the first scene you filmed of the show?
The first scene I filmed was the first-ever scene in the show with Carrie [Savannah Lee May], Julie [Madison Reyes] and Nick [Sacha Carlson]. We shot it in the school, and it was so much fun!
What is your favorite episode you shot?
The “I Got The Music” episode. It was filmed in the mansion, and I got to shoot with everyone!
How do you think the original music elevates the series?
The music is like the cherry on top of the series. It’s so catchy and a bop!
Any memorable behind-the-scenes memories you can share?
Savannah, Madison and I would always go out to lunch and shop on our days off. A relaxing shopping day was always a blast!
What is the main message you hope the audience will take away?
Julie and the Phantoms has a lot of meaningful messages. The main message is to live life to the fullest, and remember that tomorrow is never promised.
