Badgley Mischka Fall 2020 NYFW Runway
At New York Fashion Week, Badgley Mischka’s Fall/Winter 2020 show displayed an impressive array of eye-catching, English-inspired pieces. The presentation featured dramatic ensembles that paid homage to Downton Abbey (set in the Edwardian era) and the Beatles, hence the clever title of the show: “Downton Abbey Road.”
The collection was shown at Spring Studios and featured jewel tones, ash greys, metallics, even florals and pale pinks. Standout silhouettes included sleek evening gowns with sequins and bow belts, duster coats with fringed hemlines, padded shoulders and billowy sleeves.
The show kicked off with looks inspired by women’s business wear, such as trench coats and pencil skirts in glimmering shades of grey. Next, the collection transitioned into hues of green that reflected light, including a moss-colored fabric prominent in several pieces. Towards the middle of the show, sleek, simplistic black gowns walked the runway, embellished with sequins, flowers, or tassels. In the end, the designer presented a lighter color pallette, with effortless, ballerina-esque gowns featuring ruffles and even beige, metallic paillettes.
Among the most notable ensembles of the show was a black and white hybrid gown; a black sequin column adorned with ivory tulle rosettes, pearls, beads and “leaves” woven vine-like down the center of the gown The frock’s edginess and elegance melded seamlessly, with a contrasting sweetheart neckline and high slit balancing out the look. Another highlight: a gown featuring an intricately embellished sheer bodice, gold sequin skirt, and bowed red velvet balloon sleeves, reminiscent of an evening look Lady Mary might sport in the 1920s.
Badgley Mischka’s Fall 2020 collection didn’t just stir up British nostalgia, but contained pieces for every time of day or occasion. With bold silhouettes that nod to the Victorian era, elegant hues, and more than a little touch of sparkle, the collection exudes confidence--and that’s something every woman can get behind.
